Rob Edwards endured a challenging return to Vicarage Road as Watford handed Championship leaders Middlesbrough a resounding 3-0 defeat. Edwards, who was dismissed by Watford after just 10 matches, of which he lost only two, faced a frosty reception upon his return to the stadium. Despite his team's dominance for much of the match, the home crowd taunted him following goals from Imran Louza and a brace from Luka Kerumgard.

Middlesbrough had the opportunity to draw level with leaders Coventry, who suffered a loss to Wrexham, but defensive lapses and Watford's clinical finishing proved costly. Watford, now under their sixth manager since Edwards' departure three years ago, secured their first clean sheet since April 8.

After a cautious start, Watford broke the deadlock in the 15th minute when the fleet-footed Kwadwo Baah sprinted 60 yards to set up captain Louza for his fifth goal in seven matches. Despite Middlesbrough's attempts to claw back into the game, they found themselves two goals down by the 32nd minute, as Kerumgard netted his third goal of the season.

The second half began with another blow for the visitors when Mamadou Doumbia scored with a stunning 25-yard strike, slightly deflected by Kerumgard. Middlesbrough's protests for offside were in vain, and Kerumgard was credited with the goal.

Despite their efforts to change the outcome, the visitors couldn't break through Watford's defense, and Edwards' quintuple substitution late in the game failed to alter the scoreline.

Analysis: Watford showcased remarkable efficiency and determination, securing a convincing victory. Middlesbrough will need to scrutinize their defensive errors and strengthen their backline to remain competitive in the race for the top.
