Jack Wilshere's managerial debut with Luton ended in a 2-0 defeat against Mansfield at Kenilworth Road. Goals from Rhys Oates and Tyler Roberts in each half secured the win for the visitors, leaving Wilshere without points in his first match after taking over from the sacked Matt Bloomfield.
Mansfield nearly scored in the third minute, but Tyler Roberts' shot was saved by goalkeeper Josh Keeley. Luton missed a chance to take the lead in the 32nd minute when Liam Roberts made a crucial save from Jordan Clark's attempt. A minute later, Luton was awarded a penalty after Kyle Noyle fouled Clark, but Liam Roberts saved the spot-kick from Wells.
Oates opened the scoring in the 40th minute with a strike from the edge of the box following a mistake by Wells. Tyler Roberts hit the post from a difficult angle but later converted a penalty in the 59th minute after Mads Andersen's handball, doubling Mansfield's lead. Luton showed promise at times, but missed opportunities and defensive errors proved costly. Wilshere will need to quickly find a way to motivate his team and improve their performance to avoid similar outcomes in the future.
