For nearly two decades, Mark Phillips made his mark in English football, playing in seven of the top eight divisions. He began his career at his beloved Millwall, won League Two with Brentford in the 2008/09 season, and reached the EFL Trophy final at Wembley. In total, he played nearly 400 matches. In March this year, Phillips discovered he had achieved all this with undiagnosed ADHD.
After receiving what he calls a "life-changing" diagnosis, Phillips shared how it has affected his life and his desire to inspire the next generation of children with similar conditions. He realized that football's structure and training helped him manage his emotions, though fear of change hindered his career, leading him to decline transfer opportunities to Scotland and Belgium.
Phillips is now working to raise awareness of neurodivergence in football, helping other players understand and manage their conditions. He believes embracing differences can be a strength, enhancing both individual lives and the sport as a whole.
