Charlton secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Ipswich at Portman Road in a Championship clash. The visitors struck twice in quick succession during the second half, with goals from Sonny Carey and Macauley Gillesphey, before Miles Leaburn added a third. Despite Ipswich's dominance in the first half, they failed to capitalize on their chances, with Chuba Akpom coming closest by hitting the post.
Ipswich started strongly, with Ivan Azon and Marcelino Nunez creating threats in front of Charlton's goal, but goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski was up to the challenge. The hosts were forced to substitute their goalkeeper Alex Palmer due to injury, bringing in Christian Walton.
The second half, however, belonged to Charlton. Carey opened the scoring in the 52nd minute with a solo effort, and Gillesphey doubled the lead shortly after with a header. Leaburn sealed the victory in the 64th minute following a cross from Tyrese Campbell. Despite Ipswich's attempts to mount a comeback, the visitors maintained control until the final whistle.
After the match, Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna expressed his disappointment over the lack of response following the conceded goals, while Charlton's coach Nathan Jones praised his players for their aggressive play and excellent second-half performance.
Analysis: Ipswich's surprising home defeat highlights the critical importance of finishing efficiency. Charlton demonstrated how discipline and determination can yield high-level results.
