Divin Mubama netted his first career hat-trick as Stoke City thrashed Bristol City 5-1 at the Bet365 Stadium. The England Under-21 international had not scored since August but found the back of the net twice in the first half and completed his hat-trick after the break. Miljoen Manhoef and Junior Tchamadeu also scored for Mark Robins' side, who leapfrogged their visitors in the Championship standings. Mark Sykes scored a consolation goal for Bristol City in the closing minutes.
Stoke opened the scoring when Tchamadeu delivered a cross to Mubama, who converted from close range. The second goal came after a blunder by Bristol's goalkeeper, Radek Vitek, who spilled the ball at Mubama's feet. Manhoef extended Stoke's lead to 3-0, receiving a pass from Mubama and slotting it into the corner of the net.
Bristol City, who had not conceded in their last three away matches, found themselves three goals down within the first 25 minutes. Despite Gerhard Struber's side attempting to mount a comeback with several dangerous attacks, Stoke continued to dominate. Tchamadeu made it 4-0, and Mubama completed his hat-trick with Stoke's fifth goal.
Despite Bristol City's efforts to cheer their 2,100 traveling fans, they managed only a single goal through Mark Sykes at the end of the match.
Expert analysis: This match highlighted Mubama's outstanding form, showcasing his exceptional goal-scoring instincts. Stoke City delivered a commanding performance, securing a spot in the Championship playoffs. Bristol City will need to address their defensive frailties if they hope to improve in upcoming fixtures.
