Steven Gerrard will not return as Rangers' manager after ending talks to succeed Russell Martin. Although discussions were open and constructive, Gerrard decided the timing wasn't right for a comeback. Both parties left the door open for future collaboration, and Gerrard expressed gratitude to Rangers fans, wishing them success in the new season.
Gerrard, who led Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title in 2021, left for Aston Villa but was dismissed less than a year later. He then managed Al Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia but departed after 18 months.
Following Martin's dismissal after 123 days in charge, Rangers are still searching for a new manager. Danny Röhl, former Sheffield Wednesday coach, remains a contender. The club has considered other candidates, but it's unclear who will take the helm.
Rangers are currently eighth in the Scottish Premiership, 11 points behind leaders Hearts and nine behind rivals Celtic. Their next match is against Dundee United at Ibrox.
