Steven Gerrard has decided not to return as Rangers' manager after withdrawing from talks to succeed Russell Martin. Despite open and constructive discussions with the club on Thursday and Friday, the former England captain concluded that now is not the right time for a comeback and confirmed he will not continue in the selection process. Both parties, however, left the door open for potential future collaboration. Gerrard expressed gratitude to Rangers fans for their support and wished the team success this season.

Following his successful stint at Rangers, where he won the Scottish Premiership in 2021, Gerrard managed Aston Villa but was dismissed in less than a year. His last managerial role was with Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, which he left in January after 18 months.

With Martin's departure, Rangers continue their search for a new manager. Candidates include former Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Röhl, who impressed the club's leadership and was considered last summer before Martin's appointment. Other names linked to the position are Kieran McKenna and Ralph Hasenhüttl, though it's unclear if they remain in contention.

Rangers currently sit eighth in the Scottish Premiership, 11 points behind leaders Hearts and nine behind Celtic. Their next match is against Dundee United at Ibrox.
