Dani Röhl is in Glasgow to finalize his appointment as the new head coach of Rangers. Initially stepping back from the race for the position, Röhl has re-emerged as a leading candidate after negotiations with Kevin Muscat fell through. The 36-year-old is expected to be named the permanent successor to Russell Martin. However, club sources indicate that discussions with other candidates are still ongoing.
Röhl, who previously managed Sheffield Wednesday, guided the team to a 12th place finish in the Championship before departing in July. His career also includes experience as an assistant coach at RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich, and the German national team. Despite a challenging start at Sheffield Wednesday, he managed to stabilize the team and lift them out of the relegation zone.
Negotiations with Kevin Muscat, currently at the helm of Shanghai Port, were unsuccessful due to timing issues. Although Muscat was close to being appointed, a deal was not finalized. Former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard also withdrew from the process due to scheduling conflicts.
Following Martin's dismissal on October 5, U19 coach Steven Smith has been temporarily in charge, leading the team to a 2-2 draw against Dundee United. Rangers are set to face Brann in the Europa League on Thursday, where they are still seeking their first win of the season.
Analysis: Röhl's appointment could inject fresh ideas and a new strategy into Rangers' play. His experience and high-pressing style could be pivotal for the team's future success.
